Mushroom Forays

We have been hosting forays in late May and in late August in collaboration with the Alberta Mycological Society (AMS). The spring foray is two days and one night, with an overnight stay at the CHANGE Centre on the Pembina River.  On day one, we'll forage on the CHANGE Centre's land, on day two at the nearby Matthew's Crossing natural area. In the spring, we're primarily seeking morels, but there may be some oysters around too.

In late summer, our foray is one day, at the CHANGE Centre. The late summer foray features how a wider variety of mushrooms begins to grow. (I4C collaborates with AMS for wild mushroom gathering for AMS’ annual Wild Mushroom Expo that happens every year in Devon in August.)

Enjoy a beautiful natural setting and learn a little about how to identify and cook mushrooms!

Since time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples have lived on the lands of present-day central Alberta, the territories today of Treaty 6 and 7 as well as the Métis Homeland. The Institute for Contemplative Ecology respects the histories, languages and cultures of the diverse First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples of Canada; acknowledges their living here and wisdom embodied in their traditions and ceremonies practiced for centuries before the coming of colonialism and settlers; and are inspired by their achievement of living in a sacred ecology over countless generations.
